Many individuals with disabilities are home alone wishing they could go out into the community — enjoying parks, events, shopping and similar activities. The social interactions with friends and the outside world are just not there. Furthermore, government programs, which are becoming obsolete, do not have sufficient resources to address the issue. I would like to introduce you to Through the Roof Project!
Through the Roof Project (TTRP) is a faith-based program derived from a story found in the Bible. Mark 2:4 says, “When they were unable to get to Him because of the crowd, they removed the roof above Jesus; and when they had dug out an opening, they let down the mat on which the paralyzed man was lying.” (AMP). In this story, there is a man who cannot walk and is unable to get to Jesus on His own. The lame man’s friends decide to tear off the roof and lower him at the feet of Jesus. TTRP desires to be the bridge that helps people with disabilities experience true friendship just like the lame man. Our goal is to pair disabled persons with volunteers in hopes to kindle friendship that lead to more outside activities and social interaction.
You can become involved by:
- Allowing us to share the TTRP with your church/organization/group. An introductory video may be available on the TTRP website.
- Host a Friends Gathering Event. At these events individuals with disabilities are paired with a volunteer/friend and together, at your event, they enjoy food and tons of fun activities.
- Host / attend a disability training.
